Top Tips For Tinnitus Treatment

tin-pix-3.jpg

1. Avoid Internet Browsing

Avoid internet browsing and chatrooms. The internet is full of false or inaccurate medical information. Even where medical information is accurate, it may not be applicable to you, creating further confusion and fear. Many commercial companies sell tinnitus remedies and products that seem convincing, but ultimately they offer false hope and are not scientifically proven. This creates more anxiety and makes tinnitus worse. We provide independent advice. Our Professional Tinnitus Treatments employ solutions that are entirely evidence-based. Call us on 020 8059 9645 to learn more.

3. Get a Hearing Test

Treat tinnitus as soon as possible. Leaving tinnitus too long can condition the brain into thinking that this 'faulty signal' should be integrated as the 'new normal'. Tinnitus therapy can always offer a solution but results are sometimes quicker to achieve when tinnitus is addressed earlier, or when it is just starting to get worse. Call us now for an initial consultation on 020 8059 0645.

2. Treat Tinnitus Early

This is the first step in the assessment & treatment of tinnitus. A hearing test is included within our initial consultation. A small deterioration in hearing can trigger tinnitus, even if the hearing loss is not noticeable to you. Our initial consultation also includes ear wax removal, tinnitus matching test, middle ear pressure tests and other important diagnostics. Please read more about the initial consultation here

What is Tinnitus?

Sometimes there is a medical condition causing your tinnitus. Unlike other standard 'Hearing Centres', Audiological Science is part of an integrated Audiological Medicine team, based at the London Neuro-Otology Centre. Most tinnitus sufferers have a hearing loss, or have experienced a deterioration in hearing, even if it is very mild and not noticeable. Therefore, any assessment of tinnitus must involve a hearing test (audiometry) and other audiological assessments. Specialist hearing devices & sound generators have been developed in recent years, to focus on aspects of tinnitus management. Some are truly invisible to others and are very easy to get used to, usually providing instant tinnitus relief. In studies, over 95% of tinnitus sufferers have expressed significant tinnitus relief with the current range of instruments available. Read about the initial consultation here

Audiolog

It has been well-documented within tinnitus research that anxiety and stress can bring on tinnitus or make tinnitus worse. In turn, the patient's worry about tinnitus can make the stress and anxiety worse, setting off a viscous cycle. At Audiological Science, our Tinnitus Management Department includes professional counsellors, therapists and psychologists / psychiatrists that can help manage the psychological element in tinnitus distress specifically.
